Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient Traditional Chinese Medicine that dates back roughly 2500 years. It is used to prevent and treat various illness and conditions. It involves inserting thin needles into the skin at different depths at various acupuncture points to stimulate a response.

How does Acupuncture work?

Acupuncture works to improve the body’s organ function and stimulate its natural healing process. Acupuncture works with the body’s energy, which in Chinese medicine is called, “Qi” (pronounced “Chee”). This energy flows and circulates throughout the entire body and through specific pathways called meridians. When our energy is obstructed or there is an imbalance within the body (like a river attempting to flow through a dam), the disrupted flow can cause illness, pain or a lack of function in the body. By needling and stimulating acupuncture points along these meridians, it can release the blocked energy and restore the natural physiological processes. Acupuncture can create a sense of well-being and ultimately bring the body back into a state of balance.

What can acupuncture treat?

Acupuncture has been effective in treating these common disorders but are not limited to the following:

- Pain conditions

- Headaches/migraines

- Allergies

- Common cold

- Chronic fatigue

- Digestion (constipation, diarrhea, nausea, indigestion)

- Sleep Disturbances

- Emotions (anxiety, depression, stress)

- Stroke rehabilitation

- Menstrual Concerns (No period, painful period, regulating, PMS symptoms)

- Morning sickness

- Menopausal symptoms

- Infertility

- Blood pressure problems (hypertension, hypotension)

- Addictions

Moxibustion

Moxibustion is a form of heat therapy in which dried plant materials called "moxa" are burned on or very near the surface of the skin. The intention is to warm and invigorate the flow of Qi in the body and dispel certain pathogenic influences.

Ear Seeds

Ear seeds are small seeds used to stimulate pressure points in your ear. They’re a type of auriculotherapy, which refers to acupressure or acupuncture focused on the ear. They’re based on the same general principles as acupuncture.

Electro-stimulation

this type works wonderfully for pain and inflammation.  Patients feel a gentle pulsing that can be amplified or lessened depending on the situation. Disc bulges, arthritis, and tendinopathies all generally respond incredibly well to this type of Electro-stim. This gentle electrical current can reduce inflammation, block pain receptors, and help the tissues and cells maximize nutrition and regeneration in the effected area.

Gua-Sha

Gua sha is a natural, alternative therapy that involves scraping your skin with a massage tool to improve your circulation. This ancient Chinese healing technique may offer a unique approach to better health, addressing issues like chronic pain.

Fire Cupping

During cupping, your therapist will put a flammable substance such as alcohol, herbs, or paper in a cup and set it on fire. As the fire goes out, they put the cup upside down on your skin. As the air inside the cup cools, it creates a vacuum. This causes your skin to rise and redden as your blood vessels expand.  Practitioners believe this mobilizes blood flow in order to promote healing.
